Play and Rest

Saturdays and Sundays are typically free of obligations, and provide an opportunity for students to attend to personal needs and wishes. Students are free to spend time on homework, relax with friends or on one's own, explore our 1200-acre campus, or take part in an optional activity led by a staff member. One aspect of campus life that makes Conserve School so special is that staff often stay on campus over the weekend to lead recreational activities and to teach students skills related to the leisure activities they most enjoy: paddling, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, ice skating, or skiing.

Biking is a favorite activity and Conserve School.

Each weekend students can choose from staff-led activities that take place on or off campus, ranging from an afternoon paddle on one of our lakes, to a bike trip into town, to a trip to a local fish hatchery, to cross-country ski instruction. The balance of the weekend provides time to take care of personal needs (laundry has to be attended to now and then, after all), and to relax with friends. Sometimes we take a van into town to go shopping or catch a movie, too.
