Austin has been an outdoorsman since he can remember. He grew up just outside a small farming town in central Minnesota, where he could explore the nearby woods and creek. As he grew up, every summer included camping trips to state parks, learning as much as he could about the natural world. Once he graduated high school he decided to go to Vermilion Community College in Ely, MN. He went in to get a Fish and Wildlife Management degree, but at the last minute decided to try out this major called Outdoor Leadership. It was a perfect fit right from the very start. He graduated with honors from that program and went on to get his Bachelor’s in Environmental Outdoor Education from the University of Minnesota Duluth. While there, he was on the Core Staff for the Outdoor Program on campus, helped plan the Student Outdoor Educators Conference, and received the Dr. Ken Gilbertson Award for Outdoor Leadership. Austin has had experience in many outdoor activities, despite having only worked in the field a few years. When not at work, Austin enjoys paddling a canoe, camping, fishing, and hunting.
