In a recent after school activity, CS students gathered wild rice on the Ontonagon River near Watersmeet, MI.
Students prepared the poles used for steering the canoes and the knockers used to knock the wild rice into the canoes prior to the after school/weekend activity. They were given a short lesson on ricing techniques which included; the role of the person who guides the canoe with the pole, the role of the person using the knockers and the value and importance of the rice that they were about to collect.
