There are many ways to serve others. Often, however, the pressures of daily life require difficult choices. But CS6 (Spring 2013) alum Emma Anderson has discovered a way to balance life as a teacher, student, and a Public Affairs Specialist in the Wisconsin Army National Guard.
"Hello, my name is Emma Anderson and I am a CS6 alum. I’m currently a student teacher in a Kindergarten classroom in Algoma, Wis. as part of the elementary education program at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. I will be graduating (or receiving my diploma) in May and even though I thoroughly miss being with my students right now, I have been able to find the joy in connecting over the little things such as virtual read-alouds and google meet show-and-tells. I’m also a Public Affairs Specialist or photojournalist with the Wisconsin National Guard and have been activated as part of the Wisconsin National Guard’s response to COVID-19 since March 19. The best part about the Wisconsin Army National Guard is that I didn't have to choose between two careers I absolutely love, public affairs, and being a teacher. Whether incorporating the outdoors into my lesson planning, appreciating the outdoors while at military schools, or simply finding peace in the solitude of nature in early morning hikes, the lessons I learned from my time at Conserve School has had a huge impact on not only myself but the way I view the world around me."
