Kevin Geisen, a CS5 alum and current student at Western State University in Gunnison, Colorado recently returned from an international skiing competition in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The World University Games is known internationally as the Universiade. The Winter Universiade occurs every two years and is an international competition for university students modeled after the Olympics. Nearly 3,000 of the best student athletes from 57 countries competed in 14 different winter sports. In March of 2016, Kevin finished 2nd place in the skate sprint at USCSA (United States Collegiate Ski Association) Nationals, which ensured a spot for him at the 2017 28th Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The competition was intense and rewarding, Geisen says and calls Kazakhstan a place that he will long remember for its hospitality and beauty. "The Alatau Mountains," he says, "will always be fixed in my mind as the most noble mountains I've witnessed. I cannot give enough thanks to those who made my trip to Kazakhstan possible."
