Boozhoo! Hello! My name is Bazile Panek. I am a CS14 alumni who is currently going to Northern Michigan University. My major here is Native American Studies, and my two minors are in Outdoor Education and Finance. Here at NMU, I am very involved within the Native American Studies program. I currently serve as the Student Representative for the Center for Native American Studies Curriculum Committee and I am the Secretary for the Native American Student Association (NASA).
NASA is a student organization that plans and promotes events related to Native American heritage and culture on campus. Throughout the year NASA sponsors and co-sponsors many events. Members do not need to be Native American to join and participate in these activities.
Some of the past events NASA has hosted include: craft workshops (such as beadwork, rattle-making), Earth Day activities, First Nations Food Taster, "Learning to Walk Together" traditional pow wow, Leonard Peltier activities, and Native American Heritage Month. NASA also participated in an Idle No More demonstration walk.
I believe that my time at Conserve School greatly influenced my choice to come to Northern Michigan University and it helped me find what degree I wanted to pursue. With the education that I was given at Conserve School and the education that I am now receiving at NMU, I hope to someday educate and inspire the youth of the next seven generations myself.
