Alexa grew up in the desert valley of Scottsdale, Arizona. Her interest in the natural world was sparked by a visit to the leafy green east coast in high school, and she went on to complete her degree in Biology at Pomona College in California. She studied abroad for one semester in Ecuador, learning about the widely varying ecology and conservation of the small country. After graduating, Alexa spent two summers leading teenagers on backpacking, biking and canoeing trips at Camp Merrowvista. She also worked as an educator at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center, where she discovered the wonders of the four seasons for the first time. Most recently Alexa spent three months in Panama working for a study abroad program, and then returned to Pennsylvania to work as an instructor at the Pocono Environmental Education Center. Alexa jumps at every chance to look at birds through her binoculars, enjoys biking and hiking, and is currently learning how to play the guitar.
