Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, David took advantage of every opportunity to get outdoors, and spent most of his free time camping and fishing. His passion for outdoor adventure and the environment led him to attend Conserve School for a fall semester, where he fell in love with the Northwoods. He then enrolled at Northland College, where he studied Natural Resources and Biology with an emphasis in forestry. While there he surveyed the wildfire history of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, and the forest ecology of Forest Lodge for Northland College. David also led four of Northland's outdoor orientation trips. After graduation, David worked as a field technician for Oregon State University. There he conducted forest ecology research within Oregon and Washington, blissfully exploring western ecosystems. David spends most of his time fishing, but also thoroughly enjoys Frisbee, backpacking, and paddling.
